It all started in January of 2008, with two momentous events. I graduated from The Copenhagen Business School, and I unexpectedly lost my first love. The year seemed to be quickly becoming the most difficult of my life. I wanted to escape. I wanted to jump on my bicycle and ride away from my problems. But something kept me in Copenhagen, and soon after I learned through a friend of the work of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, founder of the groundbreaking Grameen Bank and winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Muhammad Yunus’s vision is the total eradication of poverty from the world.
Dr. Yunus’s work and vision intrigued me and got me thinking: why not combine my passion to bicycle with a meaningful purpose. My thought was that by bicycling a great distance, I could generate both awareness and funds for the purpose of eradicating global poverty, one impoverished village at a time. As unlikely an idea as it seemed, I thought to myself, What do I have to lose?
Absolutely nothing.
As soon as I decided to make this project my main focus, everything appeared to start falling into place. Before I knew it, I was holding meetings and gathering volunteers who were willing and ready to help me make my idea a reality.
Wheels of Action has come a long way since my initial idea, driven only by the hope and collective will of a few dedicated individuals. But to advance to the next level, and achieve our ultimate goal, we need your assistance.
Whether you are a student, a professional, or simply a bike-lover, you can make a difference by assisting Wheels Of Action in our mission to alleviate global poverty one village at a time. You can assist Wheels Of Action by:
